HISTORY & LOCATION
Following architectural education at the University of Sheffield and 10 years private and local authority experience in Northamptonshire, Philip established his practice in Kettering in 1981, from when it has provided architectural services on a wide variety of projects for Clients ranging from private individuals to public authorities and national and international companies.
In addition to academic and professional qualifications, Philip is registered to practise as an Architect by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and is a corporate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
In 1988 the premises in Victoria Street were acquired and renovated to provide accommodation for the architectural practice and a variety of other occupiers including Agricultural Surveyors, Illustrators and Graphic Designers. The Practice is pleased to be located within this developing market town and looks forward to continuing to play a role in shaping the built environment of Kettering, its surrounding areas and beyond.
The Practice provides architectural services for a wide range of building types, from small residential extensions to large commercial projects. The services offered can extend from Feasibility Studies to the full Project Administration requirements of building contracts. The Practice aims to help the delivery of projects on time, within budget and in excess of a Client's initial expectations.
If additional specialised input is required such as quantity surveying, structural and mechanical and electrical services, then the practice has a network of contacts from whom competitive quotations can be obtained for Client's consideration prior to the establishment of a Design Team to suit the particular project needs.
The quality of the Practice's design work has been recognised by its receipt of various awards including:-
Kettering Borough Council - Architectural Design Award Scheme - 1st Places and Commendations in House Extensions, New Housing, Conservation Area categories.
Rutland District Council - George Phillips Award - New Dwelling House, Lyddington.
London Brick Architectural Awards - Commended for Russell Court Residential Home, Rushden
CONTINUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Practice is committed to Continual Professional Development so that Clients can be confident that their projects will be designed in accordance with the changing requirements of Planning and Building Regulations legislation and with consideration for the latest technological innovations.
FEES AND EXPENSES
The fees charged by the Practice depend on the individual requirements of each project. Following initial enquiry, each potential Client and site is visited without obligation so that the precise requirements of the brief may be established. The Practice will then agree with the Client the services to be provided, the appropriate professional fees and advise on any related charges such as local authority costs and budget figures, if appropriate, for any necessary additional specialist input. Thereby the Client is fully aware of and will have agreed from the outset the cost of the architectural services and be aware of any related costs.
THE FUTURE – SUSTAINABILITY & ENERGY EFFICIENCY
As the complexity of planning and construction legislation increases and the reduction of carbon emissions becomes a more important influence on design, the Practice looks forward to a future in which it will assist Clients in projects to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption and heating costs in both existing and new premises.
